Apple Promised Next-Gen CarPlay in 2024, So Where Is It?

In 2022, Apple promised to bring drivers “the ultimate iPhone experience” with its next-generation CarPlay infotainment system, set to enter U.S. vehicles by the end of 2024. With the deadline upon us, The Verge’s Wes Davis checks in and find the promise largely unfulfilled.
CarPlay mapping directions now appear in a few highline displays, Davis notes, but that’s a far cry from the “cohesive design experience” that was supposed to connect drivers’ iPhones to their in-vehicle displays, including brand-specific concepts. But none of the partnerships announced in 2022 appear to have come to fruition.
“That’s even the case for vehicles like the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus, which has the screen real estate to support Apple’s vision for its dashboard-spanning infotainment software,” Davis writes.
