LaFontaine of Livonia Agrees to Fines for Allegedly Falsifying Documents

The Michigan Department of State reinstated a suburban Detroit Hyundai dealership’s license after suspending it for “imminent harm to the public” two days ago, Fox 2 Detroit reported.
LaFontaine Motors of Livonia, also known as LaFontaine Hyundai of Livonia, was accused of fraudulent acts in violation of the Michigan Vehicle Code.
“We want to be clear: we find these actions of those involved completely unacceptable. Immediate ramifications have been enforced for those involved, and we are conducting a thorough review of all policies and procedures to ensure such incidents never happen again,” a statement from the dealership read, in part. “The trust and confidence of our valued guests are paramount, and we take this matter with the utmost seriousness.”
Reporting from Fox 2 and other outlets suggests some customers unwittingly leased pre-owned vehicles passed off as new units. MDOS leveled accusations of improper odometer disclosures and improper use of dealer plates, among other violations.
