U.S. sales of all pre-owned vehicles increased by 5.6% year-over-year to 1.57 million units, according to the latest monthly report from vAuto (div. Cox Automotive), but certified pre-owned sales were down 3.4% compared with February 2024.

Dealers ended the month with a days’ supply of 41.7 used vehicles, down from 50.3 at the end of 2024, when new vehicle sales spiked and only 1.32 million used vehicles were sold.

“While the used-vehicle sales pace typically increases from January to February with the influx of tax refunds, this year’s 16% increase is the largest jump seen in recent years,” writes Scott Vanner, Cox’s senior analyst of Economic and Industry Insights, in a release accompanying the data.
