Lithia Owes Alaska $300,000 in Unadvertised Fees Settlement

Lithia Motors will pay restitution to customers of five Alaska dealerships as well as a civil penalty of $300,000 to settle charges related to fees not included in advertised vehicle prices as required by state law.

The affected stores include Lithia’s Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram franchises in Anchorage and Wasilla as well as Chevrolet of South Anchorage.

Alaska Attorney General Stephen Cox says there is “no excuse” for unadvertised fees, which are “explicitly illegal” in his state. But he acknowledges only a small percentage of transactions were affected and notes the group cooperated with his office’s investigation.

“Lithia deserves credit: when our Consumer Protection Unit brought their concerns to their attention, Lithia took ownership of its mistakes, assisted in disclosing the extent of the problem, and worked cooperatively with our Consumer Protection Unit to establish a fair resolution,” Cox writes in a release announcing the settlement.
