Report: Dealers May Have Missed 238 Voluntary Recalls

May. 28, 2025 | |

Recall Masters’ annual “State of Recalls” report finds any of 238 voluntary manufacturer recall notices may have slipped past U.S. dealers in 2024, putting drivers at risk and exposing dealers to legal liability.

More than one-third (34.5%) of last year’s voluntary recalls were labeled “high-risk” by the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration. Yet dealers who sell off-brand units and customers who have owned their vehicles for more than three years remain susceptible to missed or ignored notices.

“While the industry is working hard to keep drivers safe, challenges around compliance, software-related failures, and under-the-radar voluntary recalls continue to grow,” the report states, in part.
