D’Amato Gets 7 Years for $1.3M Dealership Billing Scam

Martin D’Amato has been sentenced to seven years in state prison for stealing $1.3 million from the New Jersey dealership where he served as internet director, reports Erik Larsen of the Asbury Park Press.
D’Amato was ordered to pay full restitution for the stolen funds, which Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer says D’Amato acquired by using the dealership’s credit card to pay for marketing services provided — but not actually performed — by third-party companies formed and owned by D’Amato.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office declined to name the dealership. Multiple news sources and D’Amato’s still-active LinkedIn profile indicate it was Pine Belt Nissan, the Toms River, N.J., store D’Amato worked for beginning in 2009.
