Local Auto Repair Shops Sending Jobs Back to the Dealerships

As in-vehicle systems and diagnostic technology continue to evolve and advance, independent repair shops are finding it increasingly difficult to service every vehicle they encounter. Instead, they must prioritize some customers and recommend that others visit their nearest name-brand service center.

“It’s one of those things. As time goes by, we have to focus on more cars we can actually service and turn away work on a lot of the ones we cannot. A lot of the reasons we cannot service a car is because of financial constraints,” said George Geropoulos, co-owner of Chicago’s Ted’s Auto Clinic with brother Chris.

Daniel Antosz investigates for Yahoo Finance, weighing the pros and contracts of investing in expensive new equipment or referring increasing numbers of would-be customers to area dealerships.
