Utah GM Creates ‘Nell,’ an AI Concierge That Refuses to Sell Cars

Oct. 20, 2026 | |

Chris Hudson, general manager of Mark Miller Subaru in Salt Lake City, has developed Nell, an AI concierge built to guide shoppers through buying a car from start to finish, and is available to consumers around the country, not just the dealership’s customers.

But Hudson tells Fox 13 that Nell will not “sell” a vehicle. He explains the concierge was inspired by family members in other parts of the country who said they wished they had an easy way to browse vehicles and ask questions without being pressured into a purchase.

“We train Nell, she is a deterministic model, so there’s nothing in there where she would hallucinate,” Hudson tells reporter Robyn Oguinye.

Asked whether Nell could replace salespeople, Hudson says he does not believe so. “What we’ve noticed internally is when people realize that they are not going to be hard sold or sold to and they have a question, then they pull the handle and they eject and they talk to a human.”
