Tesla Reports First Annual Sales Decline in 9 Years

Jan. 2, 2025 | |

Tesla Inc. reported global fourth-quarter sales of 495,570 vehicles, pushing its 2024 total to 1.79 million, down 1.1% from last year’s 1.81 million. The Austin-based EV maker offered 0% financing, free charging and affordable leases to help end a down year on a high note.

An AP report notes the decline is Tesla’s first in nine years.

“In 2022, Tesla predicted that its sales would grow 50% most years, but the prediction ran into an aging model lineup and increased competition in China, Europe and the U.S.,” the report states, in part.

Analysts note the Q4 campaign helped Tesla remain the world’s No. 1 EV seller for at least one more year. China’s BYD reportedly sold 1.77 million new units in 2024 — a 41% improvement.
