Ford Recalls 20,484 Hybrid SUVs Over Battery Failure

Ford Motor Co. will recall a total of 20,484 2020-’24 Ford Escape and 2021-’24 Lincoln Corsair hybrid SUVs, according to a report from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Recall notification letters are expected to deploy to customers Jan. 20.
At issue is a manufacturing defect that could cause one or more high-voltage battery cells to short circuit. Battery failure could result in the sudden loss of drive power and an increased risk of fire.
“Dealers will perform a battery energy control module (BECM) software update, and replace the high voltage battery pack, as necessary, free of charge,” NHTSA’s report states.
