Automotive News’s list of the nation’s top 100 F&I revenue generators of 2025 ranks Lithia Motors No. 1 with $1.47 billion, knocking the previous year’s leader, AutoNation ($1.46 billion), out of the top spot.

AutoNation is trailed by Group 1 Automotive ($934.6 million), Hendrick Automotive Group ($821 million) and Penske Automotive Group ($816.5 million), while Hendrick and its 96 stores leads AN’s top five in F&I revenue per rooftop at $8.6 million.

Hendrick also leads the group in F&I revenue per vehicle at $3,841, easily outpacing runners-up AutoNation ($2,769) and Group 1 ($2,036).

Experts tell AN’s Paige Hodder that bigger groups are relying less on individual talent and more on consistent processes and systems.

“Reliability and strong processes provide an advantage in an increasingly competitive auto market … But to make those systems work, dealership groups need skillful managers,” Hodder writes.
