Marsh Pushes for ‘Coordinated Response’ as Synthetic ID Thefts Multiply

Dealers, insurance providers, finance sources and rental agencies are under attack by increasingly sophisticated identity thieves, leading Veridos America’s Jim Marsh to advocate for an industrywide effort to properly verify identities.
Marsh’s organization is a joint venture between Giesecke+Devrient and Bundesdruckerei that provides secure identification solutions to governments and other authorities.
“Identity fraud in the automotive space does not exist in a vacuum — it often overlaps with vehicle registration fraud, false insurance claims and broader financial crimes,” Marsh writes in an exclusive to DealerELITE. “Despite this interconnectedness, there is no unified framework or protocol for identity checks that spans the entire automotive ecosystem.”
