State law requires dealers to deliver titles within 40 days of purchase. In a release announcing the lawsuits, Yost says affected customers can apply for aid and assistance through Ohio’s Title Defect Recision fund, which has already issued more than $312,000 from an unspecified number of claims.

“Buying a used car without knowing the dealer’s reputation is a roll of the fuzzy dice,” Yost writes. “Reading online reviews and checking for a history of complaints could spare you the headache of a bad deal.”
