Yukon Owner Says GM Aware of V8 Issue Before Recall

May. 5, 2025 | |

The owner of a 2023 GMC Yukon Denali has sued General Motors Co. in federal court, claiming the factory was aware of a propulsion issue years before it resulted in the recent recall of hundreds of thousands of trucks and SUVs.

“The lawsuit cites numerous consumer complaints reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regarding vehicles equipped with the L87 V8 engine,” writes USA Today’s Charles Singh. “It claims that ‘it is indisputable that GM has had knowledge of the engine defect prior to March, 24, 2023,’ which is years before a recall was issued.”

Singh reports the lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan’s Southern Division in February. Attorneys for the plaintiff are seeking a class action certification that would include at least 100 claimants.
