F&I Gross Grows for Group 1, Sonic, AutoNation in Q4

Five of the “Big 6” publicly traded dealer groups are generating at least $2,000 in F&I gross profit per vehicle retailed, according to the latest quarterly report by Automotive News’s John Huetter.
AutoNation reports the highest average F&I gross ($2,690), followed by Sonic Automotive ($2,427) and Asbury Automotive Group ($2,238). But the biggest year-over-year improvement belongs to Group 1 Automotive, which improved 5.9% from Q4 2023, adding $122 per deal to finish Q4 at $2,188 in F&I gross profit per vehicle. Sonic (4%) and AutoNation (0.3%) also recorded gains over the prior-year quarter.
“Group 1 was the only one of the six to report improvement in same-store F&I gross profit per vehicle on an annual basis, averaging $2,087 for full-year 2024, up 2.3 percent from 2023,” Huetter writes.
