Honda of the Bronx to Pay $129,999 to Settle Deceptive Pricing Charges
The New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection announced that Honda of the Bronx has agreed to a six-figure payout to settle a lawsuit alleging more than 350 violations of the city’s consumer protection laws.
The dealership will pay $61,499 in civil penalties and $68,500 in restitution to an unnamed number of used car buyers.
In a release, DCWP officials say a “pattern of systemic noncompliance” led to accusations of deceptive pricing practices as well as missing paperwork, hidden financing terms and, at one point, selling vehicles without a valid dealer license.
“Once a cornerstone of personal freedom and mobility, car ownership is increasingly slipping out of reach for many Americans. Used auto dealerships can offer more affordable options, but too often they’re rife with hidden fees, bait-and-switch tactics and predatory financing that drive costs even higher,” writes DCWP Commissioner Samuel A.A. Levine. “That’s exactly the kind of deception this administration is putting in the rearview mirror.”
