Select Auto Protect Shut Down by Okla. Insurance Commissioner

The Oklahoma Insurance Department ordered Select Auto Protect to “stop all sales activities” in the state following a series of consumer complaints. OID Commissioner Glen Mulready said an investigation found the Wilmington, Del.-based company sold vehicle service contracts without a license.
“Taking action against unauthorized entities is one of the many ways we protect Oklahoma consumers,” Mulready said in a release announcing the filing of a cease-and-desist order. “Licensing ensures that companies uphold ethical standards and remain accountable for their practices.”
OID filed the order Jan. 24, threatening total civil penalties of up to $5,500 per violation and offering Select 20 days to request an in-person hearing to refute the allegations.
