Dealers Test AI Tools in vAuto Lab

Sep. 1, 2026 | |

vAuto (div. Cox Automotive) has officially launched Test Drive, a new digital platform designed to give dealers an opportunity to preview and test new and largely AI-powered inventory management tools.

In a release, executives say the national rollout follows a 700-dealer beta test that contributed to the development of two trade-in appraisal tools: Common Problems uses AI to search online owner forums and chat groups for commonly cited mechanical issues and Vehicle Journey uses ownership and service history to estimate reconditioning costs.

Joining those solutions in Test Drive are a new AI assistant and an updated version of vAuto’s vehicle description generator.

“The best technology partners innovate relentlessly and let dealers adopt on their own terms,” says Derek Hansen, a senior vice president at Cox Automotive. “With Test Drive, we’re creating a more direct connection between our product teams and the dealers who use our solutions every day. This gives dealers an opportunity to shape new capabilities early, helping ensure they solve real dealership challenges, fit the way dealers work and deliver value faster.”
