Hyundai Sets Monthly US Sales Record in Uneven August

U.S. dealers sold more than 88,000 new Hyundais and nearly 8,000 Genesis units in August, setting new monthly records, according to Automotive News’s latest monthly new vehicle sales report.
AN’s David Phillips reports August sales numbers were up on a year-over-year basis for Hyundai (11.7%) and Genesis (7.3%) as well as Toyota (13.6%), Kia (10.4%) and Ford (4.2%).
Hyundai Motor North America CEO Randy Parker says the Elantra HEV, Palisade and Ioniq 5 helped set the new records.
“August was an exceptional month for us, with retail and total sales pacing well above our previous best August results,” writes Parker in a statement. “This momentum keeps us firmly on track for our best year ever.”
Mazda (-7.6%), Honda (-5.2%) and Subaru (-29) sales decreased on a year-over-year basis in August, one of only three down months for U.S. Subaru dealers in the past three years.
J.D. Power and GlobalData figures show incentives were up 1.2% to an average of $3,105 per new unit sold, or about 6.2% of sale price. Phillips’s report also includes insights into EV sales, leasing, inventory and more.
