Des Moines, Honolulu Lead Nation in Car Sales Close Rate

Foureyes analysts say auto dealers in the Des Moines, Iowa (30.1%), Honolulu, Ha. (28.6%), and Omaha, Neb. (25.4%), markets are America’s best sales closers but stress that process matters more than location.
The connected data provider’s Q1 report finds a 15.6-point gap separates Des Moines from the worst-performing market: California’s Bay Area, where dealers convert sales leads at a 14.5% rate. The average among all 1,150 dealers in 48 U.S. markets is 18.5%.
Author Matt Inda notes a high contact rate is the most reliable indicator of an above-average close rate.
“The overall average doesn’t describe your store or your market — it describes an aggregate. What matters is where your specific pipeline leaks,” Inda writes. “Contact rate has the widest range of any stage in this analysis: 47% at the bottom, 79% at the top. It’s also the stage most consistently correlated with close rate performance across these 48 markets.”
