Ramseth: Registration Data Shows Carvana Shipping New Vehicles Nationwide
Citing a USA Today/LocaliQ Automotive investigation, Luke Ramseth of The Detroit News (a USA Today publication) reports Carvana is selling new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram units to customers across the country from the Stellantis dealerships the used vehicle retailer acquired in a spree that began early last year.
Carvana currently owns and operates seven CJDR stores. The first, in Casa Grande, Ariz., near the company’s Tempe headquarters, was purchased in February 2025. It would be joined by locations in the Dallas, San Diego, Atlanta, Boston and Cleveland markets.
Industry watchers initially surmised adding franchised dealerships was a strategy intended to secure a trade-in channel, as it undoubtedly has. But 1,378 new vehicles sold by Carvana and registered in 37 states indicates to LocaliQ’s Chris Wood the company had ambitions beyond inventory sourcing.
“They’re going to continue to grow,” Wood tells Ramseth. “We’ve seen it each month, the numbers keep ticking up. I don’t see a ceiling for them at this point.”
