Tesla Sales Down 15% in Q4

In a surprise move, Tesla has released a full sales report just days after the end of the fourth quarter. The Austin, Texas-based factory sold 418,227 new EVs in Q4, down 15% year-over-year, finishing 2025 with 1.6 million units sold worldwide, 8.1% fewer than in 2024.
A year ago, Tesla reported its first year-over-year sales decline since 2015. In 2024, CEO Elon Musk devoted much of his time and an estimated $250 million to $350 million in campaign donations to support President Donald Trump’s successful bid for a second term, likely alienating much of Tesla’s traditionally left-leaning customer base.
After leading the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency for several months following Trump’s January 2025 inauguration, Musk scaled back his government work to refocus on his business interests.
Multiple sources report Chinese automaker BYD sold nearly 2.3 million fully electric vehicles last year, surpassing Tesla in global EV deliveries for the first time.
