Volvo Sales Plummet as Hyundai Leads Gainers in Slow February

U.S. sales of new Volvo units fell by 41.7% on a year-over-year basis in February as tariffs and “unfavourable regulatory developments” adversely affected sales, according to a statement from parent company Geely Holding.
Sales also were down for Subaru (-8.2%), Ford (-5.5%) and Mazda (-0.1%) in February, according to the latest report from the Automotive News Data Center.
“The sales pace has cooled considerably since the first three quarters of 2025, when consumers rushed to take advantage of pre-tariff prices and the $7,500 federal tax credit toward EV purchases before it expired in late September,” AN’s David Phillips writes.
Hyundai (5.7%), Toyota (3.2%) and Honda (1.1%) reported increases. But GlobalData reports overall sales declined by nearly 4% in February, and incentives were essentially unchanged from a year ago.
